Job Description
The objective of the Utility Line Locator is to ensure that the City owned utilities are properly located therefore protecting them from damage by contractors homeowners other utilities or utility crew members as well as to contact other utilities prior to City of Huntsville crews excavating to reduce damage to their utilities.
Job Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional; position-specific duties.
? Protecting and locating City utility lines for employees; contractors; homeowners and other utilities.
? Ensuring that al locates are called in to Texas One Call prior to the City?s water or sewer department beginning excavations.
? Maintaining accurate records and documentation of work orders; taps; etc.
? Maintaining the City?s equipment; such as; pagers; radios; phones and locating equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
? High school diploma or equivalent.
? Minimum of one (1) year experience and/or training in water distribution or related field.
? Minimum of one (1) year experience in operation of light and heavy equipment.
? Must be able to work an ?on-call? schedule when assigned or in severe weather conditions as needed.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
? Valid Texas driver?s license and acceptable driving record.
? Valid Texas Class ?B? CDL; preferred; if hired without; must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
? TCEQ Class ?D? or higher water certification; preferred; if hired without; must obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.
Required Knowledge of:
? Safety policies; procedures; and practices.
? Applicable local; State; and Federal laws; codes; regulations; and ordinances.
Required Skill in:
? Following written and verbal instructions.
? Maintaining a professional manner when interacting with City employees and the public.
? Reading and interpreting maintenance and equipment manuals.
? Reading; comprehension; retaining and applying City and State policies and legislation; i.e. City ordinances; policy and procedures manuals; etc.
? Operating a variety of equipment including hand-tools; chain saws; mowers; weed eaters; etc.
Reasoning Abilities:
? Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public.
? Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.
? Ability to think quickly; maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations.
? Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications.
? Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
? Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff; supervisor; and the public.
? Ability to read City policies and procedures; written instructions; general correspondence; MSDS sheets; safety manuals; traffic signs and warning labels.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
? Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations (addition; subtraction; multiplication; division).
