Job description: Position Summary

The Amazon Spheres are a place where employees can think and work differently surrounded by more than 40,000 plants from the cloud forest regions of over 30 countries. The Spheres Docents take a very active role in publicly engaging with guests and employees to connect Amazon innovation and the concept of biophilia. The primary objective is to provide a 5-star customer experience for all visitors to the Spheres through presentations, tours, activations and proactive engagement. The position also serves as a storyteller who is friendly, attentive, outgoing, and is comfortable speaking to groups of various sizes. We are committed to making the Spheres a memorable experience for all users. Hours of operation are 8:30 am to 6:30 pm Monday through Friday and on select Saturdays. Schedules may vary due to operating hours.

Wage: $26.00 per hour

Key responsibilities / Essential Functions
? As requested, conduct guided tours of the Spheres to senior-level employees, VIP guests and approved groups.
? While on the floor, actively engage with visitors encouraging interaction and positively responding to all questions.
? Lead presentations and public talks to the public with or without the use of supplemental material (i.e. notecards, pictures, physical prototypes).
? Participating in virtual activations of the Spheres, including but not limited to, videos, content for social media, and internal/public websites.
? In close partnership with the Spheres trainer, ensure all needed horticulture knowledge and training is obtained.
? Encourage visitor interaction with special exhibits and assist with related presentations as requested.
? Assist with all special events, activations, and projects as requested.
? Support and assist with horticulture work as needed.
? Maintain extensive knowledge regarding active and future exhibits, plant life and other topical information on the Spheres. Be prepared to offer insight and speak to the concept, timeline and design of the Spheres.
? As requested, facilitate the opening and closing of the Spheres, providing oversight of the space and ensuring it is clean, organized and customer-ready at all times.
? Proactively greet all visitors in a friendly, warm, professional and courteous manner and ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
? Provide a 5-star first impression to every visitor.
? Answer questions and offer facts that provide guests and employees with information that will enhance their experience.
? As appropriate, assist with the set up and take down of exhibit and program materials and ensure they are properly stored and maintained.
? Track appropriate metrics as directed by a supervisor, program manager, or director.
? Communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and managers using provided radios, instant messaging software and email.
? Immediately communicate escalations to supervisor and call security for assistance, if necessary.
? Act as a mentor for new staff and provide insight through on-the-job training and shadowing.
? Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings and training sessions to maintain current information on the Spheres, Understory and Amazon-related topics and events.
? Be prepared to offer guidance about places to eat and other landmarks to visit within the greater Seattle area.
? Arrive in Spheres Docent uniform. Launder as necessary to ensure a professional appearance.
? Immediately report any suspicious persons, calls or packages to Amazon Corporate Security, NWC supervisors and Amazon Global Real Estate and Facilities.
? Ensure any facilities issues are reported through the appropriate channels.

Needed Experience & Requirements

Education
? High School Diploma or GED required
? Interest in horticulture and biophilia

Experience
? Minimum 1 year direct experience in conservancy or related venue.
? Minimum 2 years experience in customer service in museum, conservatory, or high profile venue.

Demonstrable Skills
? Ability to comfortably speak and lead programs in front of large or small audiences.
? Effectively communicate with all levels of management.
? Excellent customer service skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while always remaining professional and friendly.
? Practice and implement varied inquiry methods and teaching strategies that support visitor engagement and understanding.
? Capable of learning new material rapidly and willing to invest time and expend the effort necessary to study material
? Demonstrates impeccable composure and ability to thrive in ambiguous situations. Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume and unusual events.
? Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully interconnect with employees and the community.
? Must understand, interpret and follow Amazon?s policies and procedures.
? Strong conflict resolution, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
? Must be able to frequently carry and lift a items up to 50 pounds.
? May need to carry supplies to other buildings.
? Ability to walk consistently within a 1.5 radius is required.
? Reading, writing and communicating in the English language.
? May need to work or directly handle plants or assist in plant care.
? Ability to see both distance and details at close range, within a few feet of the observer (with or without corrective lenses).
? Ability to identify and understand the speech of another person (with or without a personal auditory hearing device).
? Humidity and temperature conditions may vary in order to maximize the plant life in the space. The temperature of the Spheres is maintained between 70 and 75 degrees with an average humidity of level of 60%.
? Speak to visitors, staff and colleagues for the duration of each shift.
? The position requires standing for long periods of time up to the entire length of the shift.
? Walking up and down stairs is required when roving the space and assisting customers.
? Must adhere to dress code and be conscientious about personal hygiene.
? The space is inhabited by various plant life so any allergies may impede performance of duties.
? Sight (with or without corrective lenses) is required.
? This is a dog friendly environment with over 1000 dogs on campus. Individuals with dog allergies or those who do not particularly care for dogs may not be the best fit.
