Job Summary

As the Director of Food Safety & Quality at UNREAL, your primary responsibility is to ensure our products consistently meet and surpass rigorous safety and quality standards. You will lead the strategic development, implementation, and maintenance of all food safety and quality programs, and your influence will extend to cultivating a culture that prioritizes food safety and quality throughout the organization, from raw materials to shelf. Serving as the primary advocate for consumer well-being, you will manage relationships with internal and external partners, overseeing a comprehensive co-manufacturing and supplier physical auditing program. Regulatory compliance will fall under your purview, ensuring adherence to standards internally and across customers and suppliers, including staying abreast of evolving food safety regulations and guidance and implementing the necessary updates at UNREAL. You will also lead a team to support quality, safety, and commercialization activities.

The Director of Food Safety & Quality will be a vital member of the UNREAL Operations team and report directly into our COO. This position will have two direct reports, including UNREAL?? Food Safety & Quality Specialist & Food Processing Continuous Improvement Manager. This is a remote position with preference for a candidate located in the Greater Boston Area, and includes up to 30% regular travel across North America.

What You??l Do
??Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of all food safety and quality programs with a strategic lens and in light of UNREAL?? high-growth trajectory
??Promote a food safety and quality focused culture; be the #1 advocate within the organization for what?? best for our consumers & products
??Own all food safety and quality related relationships with internal and external partners
??Implement and manage a robust co-manufacturing and supplier physical auditing program with clear reporting for presentation to upper management
??Conduct food safety inspections independently and clearly report findings to upper management
??Lead recall planning and management, both internally and in conjunction with external parties
??Manage regulatory compliance requirements internally and across customers and suppliers
??Stay current on developments in food safety regulations and guidance, and implement updates at UNREAL as necessary
??Ensure compliance with relevant certification bodies
??Execute any other R&D, quality, or food safety initiative as prioritized by the COO
??Lead and build a team that can support commercialization activities to ensure successful product launches

Who You Are
??Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field
??A minimum of 7 years of experience in food safety and quality assurance management, in a food manufacturing environment
??A passion for natural and BFY food products
??Ability to travel up to 30% of the time across North America to audit co-manufacturing facilities, ingredient suppliers, and raw material suppliers
??Regulatory compliance experience as it relates to FDA, SQF, and FSMA
??Familiarity with TraceGains document management software
??PCQI certification
??Self-starter with proven ability to work independently
??Able to identify and resolve problems independently and with sound judgment
??Detail oriented, thorough, and dependable
??Willingness to taste test products and ingredients for quality parameters and with a consumer lens
??Effective and professional communication with internal and external contacts
??Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

The base compensation range for this position is between $150,000 - $170,000 annually. This position is also eligible for a 20% bonus. The salary range listed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Individual compensation is determined by additional factors, including role-related experience and relevant education and certifications
