YouTube Content Creator (Part Time)

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a YouTube star, hosting your own regularly released chat show about a topic that you love? If so, we should talk!

Our team is ready to step up and fill in the gaps that many on-screen hosts may not have experience with. So, you don't need to ALSO be a video editor, a graphic designer, an SEO expert, or a social marketer... You only need a great on-screen... presence, a topic that you love, and a few hours to spare each week.

Castaway Studios is seeking 2-3 new hosts to produce YouTube video content for a pilot program that we are launching this summer.

Our ultimate goal is to foster new talent, grow our network of YouTube channels, and to be fair, equitable, and transparent about compensation. We all win when we work together to grow something fun and engaging.

WHO WE ARE
? We are a group of professional video editors, graphic designers, social marketers, SEO experts, data-driven analysts, and content creators starting a pilot program to establish a network of YouTube channels covering topics that our creators care most about.
? As one of our on-screen hosts, you'll record 8-12 minute long episodes of your show in the comfort of your home (or wherever your personal studio may be) and submit the raw footage or rough assembly, along with show notes, to your assigned support team.
? Your assigned team of professionals will turn your raw footage into a polished video, released on YouTube with eye-catching custom thumbnails and engaging titles. Each released episode will have all the YouTube trappings -- full descriptions, keywords, links, and more. Not only that, but your show will also receive support across popular social channels.
? We are available to help you conceptualize, brainstorm, or give feedback on show topic ideas. Our current content creators can coach you through setting up your recording space and making sure your framing, lighting, and audio is up to par.

WHO YOU ARE
? You are an engaging on-screen host and fantastic storyteller. You use your voice, body language, expressions, and a little comedic timing to lock viewers in for the whole ride.
? You have a skill or passion that you are enthusiastic about and want to share with the world. We want our hosts to create content about what they love, not just what we assign them. This passion can be anything, but some examples may include: pop culture news, history, DIY, tech, education, books, tabletop gaming -- anything. You don't have to be the world's greatest expert, but you do need to be able to 'riff' on the subject knowledgably.
? You have a few hours every week to spare (evenings are fine and we encourage moonlighting to start). Remember, you are already an expert about your topic, so creating 8-12 minute videos shouldn't require multiple hours of prep time or research. We are most interested in hosts who can handle recording multiple shows per week.
? You have a place to film that is quiet, well lit, and decorated enough to create an attractive frame around you. You are also comfortable with basic recording techniques and the use of microphones.
? You are motivated. While the beginning of our journey together won't require a lot of your time, growing a channel to success requires consistency and dedication. You must be willing to commit to sticking with a release schedule. And ideally, you are excited to increase your participation with us as we cultivate success together.
? You are collaborative. You understand that you have a team of professionals who are focused on helping you succeed. This means that you'll take feedback seriously and work with us to create something truly special.

APPLICATION PROCESS
? To kick things off, we want to hear your logline and pitch for a show. Tell us who you are, what you want to create a show about, and why you are THE person to host it. Please submit a headshot of some kind (doesn't have to be professional) along with this info.
? If we like your pitch, then we will ask you to create a test reel. This is just 3 or so minutes of you acting as the host to your upcoming show. It can be a segment you come up with or a general introduction to the show. What we are mainly looking at is your on-screen presence.
? If we love your pitch and your reel, then you will be in the running to partner with our professionals and launch a fully-supported YouTube channel. We will then have a final interview round over Zoom and make our final casting choices.

COMPENSATION
? Our host compensation begins as a flat rate per published episode. This is a stipend that we provide during the initial phase of the show where no revenue streams have been established yet. The amount will depend on factors surrounding pre-production time, sundries, estimated average runtime, and the topic itself.
? During the first 60 days, we will track key performance indicators to make sure the show is on a path to success. We will work closely with you to help establish and grow an audience to achieve full Adsense monetization.
? When your show reaches the YouTube monetization threshold and becomes eligible for brand sponsorships, your compensation will change accordingly to reflect this success. The type of compensation will mostly depend on your personal goals (are you looking for full-time work with us, or would you rather continue freelancing with a compelling bonus structure based on views or sponsorships?)

TIPS AND FURTHER INFO
? We are looking primarily for 'desk' shows that feature a host sitting or standing in a single location. If your show idea requires multiple locations or camera angles, it may not be a good fit for this pilot program. We'd still like to hear from you, though.
? We are ultimately looking for topics that can be spun into many, many episodes. The show concept can be timely and based on the news cycle (pop culture news), or it can be more evergreen and always relevant (historical deep dives). The most important thing is that you can foresee the show going on 'indefinitely.'
? The most striking test reels will not only give us a peek at your hosting capabilities, but also your recording space. Make sure you are happy with the framing, lighting, and the set decoration behind you. We will help you tweak your setup to achieve better results, but a polished and attractive test reel will absolutely give you a leg up in the casting process.
