Key Responsibilities:

The Director ? Travel Operations provides leadership, strategic vision and technology execution for DevOps within the Customer Technology Platforms portfolio and enterprise Complex Event Processing to create innovative customer experiences and provide the operation real-time contextual customer information and events. This role will be responsible for the development lifecycle of applications/systems as well as the day-to-day operations and engineering of Customer Technology Platforms infrastructure both in cloud and on premise. This includes Project Management/Scrum Leadership, Solution Architecture, Development, Test Activities, Database Development, DevOps, Cloud Platform Ops and Release Management. The leader in this role will be responsible for ensuring that development activities in this area are coordinated with the enterprise service teams, Digital Product teams, and relevant governance and security requirement teams.

This is a hybrid role within person time focused at our Chicago and Houston offices. Ability to travel 10% to 20% is required.
? Owns planning, execution, and resourcing
? Builds strategy and roadmaps in conjunction with customer feedback and business partner objectives to meet United?s customer goals.
? Communicates strategy, goals, and measurable components to drive success and accountability across the organization.
? Partners and collaborates across business units. Partners with key business and technology customers in the delivery of critical technology initiatives to meet our business goals.
? Proactively identifies and mitigates risks to the corporation from reliability, security & regulatory risks that impact the customer platforms.
? Accountable and responsible for all production maintenance and repair applications including 7x24 support and that systems are stable, reliable, and available for customers.
? Develops empowers and leads a hard-working team of engineers, technical guides and leaders.
? Responsible for advancing, assisting and follow-through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutions

Delivery/Support:
? Accountable for gaining and maintaining alignment of delivery success criteria with business partners
? Accountable for effective project management and delivery of work requests and projects within committed budget, schedule and quality for individual projects while also meeting overall department performance goals
? Accountable for identifying needs, securing commitments, and supervising progress of work from internal and external service provider teams
? Provide cost estimates and case updates
? Accountable for ensuring technology solutions align with architectural standards
? Responsible for communication of progress to senior IT and Business leadership
? Responsible for organizing and maintaining performance of any application issues in accordance with agreed SLA
? Ensures projects/programs are completed within the committed time and budget and are integrated with other software applications
? This director is accountable for improving the productivity of the applications staff and the maintainability of software systems, stays ahead of new technologies, incorporates those technologies when appropriate and motivates others to apply them

IT Process Mgmt. and Administrative:
? Accountable for administrative management of 20-50 IT professionals, either as direct reports or sourced ? HR administration, Salary administration, Time Reporting, etc.
? Define, prioritize, allocate resources, track and provide status reporting of work assignments, projects, programs
? Budget and cost management for the projects/programs
? Ensure the development process subject areas (solution delivery, project management, work requests, QA, etc.) and standards are established, reliably led and performed
? Provide information and periodic updates to support overall IT performance metrics, monthly project status reporting and quarterly resource planning review
? Ability to lead up to 10 or more applications
? Experience leading 15 or more direct reports
? Ability to handle up to 10-15 M in budget
? Ability to direct multiple Business Partners

Organizational Effectiveness / People:
? Provide leadership by establishing department and individuals? goals
? Responsible for developing and maintaining an overall sourcing plan which includes creative sourcing options and alternatives to ensure supply capacities meet work demand, role and abilities requirements and cost objectives
? Responsible for assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles and responsibilities
? Responsible for department and individual performance assessments and improvement plans
? Responsible for coaching, counseling, assisting employees to develop individual career development and training plans
? The Director IT Application Development has decision making responsibility within the field and advances any issues which cannot be resolved to the Managing Director Application Development
? This director is tasked with understanding all the operating policies and procedures of the enterprise
? The Director directs multiple teams of developers involved in the analysis, design and development of complex and large-scale applications which may include both projects and programs
? Directly contacts the client and support team members across the IT organization

Qualifications

What?s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
? Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration. Master?s degree a plus
? 10-15 years of management experience in an IT or leadership related role
? Strong project organizations skill, including prioritization, planning and organization
? Strong oral and written communication skills
? Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
? Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
? Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
? Understanding of the airline retail and commercial strategies and emerging technology highly preferred
? Domain authority of multiple business areas to guide a team of technical consultants and build multi-functional viewpoints on a subject matter.
? Experience with Amazon Web Services cloud based applications and services
