Public Works Engineer Technician I - Inspections
Compensation Range $27.37 - $34.67 -- Job Description Summary Open Until Filled This position is an entry level construction inspector and material tester. Technical adequacy of work is reviewed upon completion. Non-routine work may be reviewed in process by supervisor. -- Job Description Field Work - 35% ? Aid in the management of various county construction projects. ? Conduct field material... property tests on and or collect representative samples of, aggregates, soils, asphalt, and concrete. ? Candidate must maintain and properly store valuable county equipment, tools, and materials. ? Must communicate efficiently and concisely utilizing verbal communication and written communication, including writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. ? Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of construction materials and method variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Laboratory Work - 35% ? Perform specialized work of substantial variety and complexity. ? Perform standardized property tests on aggregates, soils, asphalt, and concrete materials. ? Maintain and properly store valuable county equipment, tools, and materials. ? Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral formats. ? Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportions to practical situations. Administrative - 15% ? Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications. ? Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. ? Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the public. ? Work assignments may include the application of business decision making related to construction documents, agreements, design, testing, and maintenance. ? Assist with assignments requiring independent and individual contribution. ? Effectively present information including field logs, inspection reports, and construction documents supervisors, management, staff, the public, contractors and/or elected officials. ? Apply engineering techniques for design, testing and maintenance for work projects. Other Duties as Assigned - 15% ? Assist with snow desk operations and be available for alternating weekly on-call duties, fall through spring, as assigned. ? Support emergency responses and be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours. ? Additional overtime duties may be required. ? Follow policies and procedures, the Weld County Code of Conduct and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both. ? Surveying requires demonstrated knowledge of coordinate geometry and mathematical understanding of horizontal and vertical curves. Required for All Jobs ? Performs other duties as assigned ? Complies with all policies and standards -- Required Qualifications Required Education High School Diploma/GED and 2 years Experience in a civil construction or engineering work environment. Post high school education may be substituted for work experience, with training in a specialty field. or Associate's Degree Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Engineering/Construction Management field or Bachelor's Degree with job knowledge may be substituted for the prior experience Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date Skills and Abilities Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date Geotechnical testing and materials knowledge Ability to read construction plans and provide infrastructure management support. General understanding of all phases of construction inspection including, but not limited to soils, asphalt, concrete underground and above ground utilities, traffic control procedures, and reclamation procedures. Proficiency with MS Office applications, Word, and Excel. Licenses and Certifications Driver License, Valid and in State Maintain a valid license for the duration of employment Upon Hire Required Use and application of County Code and Policy, CDOT Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, AASHTO, and any other applicable reference manuals as a source for regulations to assignments and county service issues Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) Excavation and Embankment Inspection certification within 1-1/2 Yrs Required or American Concrete Institution (ACI) Field Technician Grade 1 within 1-1/2 Yrs Required or Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) Asphalt Paving Laydown Level A.
