Summary of Duties As a Database Engineer you will: Work with professionals from various programs to identify data needs and design and develop optimized database/tabular/semantic models that are both high-performing and user-friendly. Restructure and prepare data from the ORRAI Data Warehouse for statistical analysis, data discovery, and algorithm development, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Retrieve and integrate data from state agencies and external partners to support comprehensive reporting and analysis. Partner with business stakeholders to gather and understand their requirements, translating them into actionable insights and features for dashboards and reports. Develop and maintain data structures that meet the diverse analytical needs of various projects, ensuring scalability and reliability. Identify, develop, and implement methods to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data in preparation for the data warehouse. This includes normalizing and de-normalizing data from a wide range of sources and databases. Play a key role in the ongoing migration from our in-house SQL Database Warehouse to a modern Snowflake/Azure environment, optimizing our data infrastructure for enhanced scalability, security, and performance. Ensure all work aligns with ORRAI Data Warehouse standards, including comprehensive documentation, clear and consistent communication, and a collaborative approach that avoids siloed work. Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years of information systems experience OR An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND three (3) years of information systems experience OR A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field AND one (1) year of information systems experience Essential Attributes We are looking for candidates with: Strong knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS), including design, implementation, and optimization. Proven experience in working effectively within teams, demonstrating strong collaboration skills to achieve shared goals. Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service, addressing the needs of managers and partner agencies with professionalism and efficiency. Experience working in cloud environments, particularly with cloud-based data warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Azure, AWS), leveraging these tools to enhance data management and reporting capabilities. However, working hours must align with the Pacific Time Zone to ensure collaboration with the team and stakeholders.
