Job Summary

During a patient's peri-operative hospitalization, a nursing assistant provides professional nursing care by working in close collaboration with the patient's surgeon. They perform direct patient care and intraoperative responsibilities while also assuming preoperative and post-operative evaluation duties. The nursing assistant's role involves interdependence with the surgeon in performing the role effectively.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
? Shows expertise in executing sterile techniques throughout all surgical procedures. Proactively identifies and rectifies breaches in cleanliness procedures, ensuring that sterile technique is properly upheld at all times.
? Performing sutures with careful attention to detail is essential to the healing process and reduces overall surgical recovery time.
? The surgical suite personnel are thoroughly trained and skilled in providing the best patient care. They ensure that physician preference cards are followed meticulously for complete patient satisfaction.
? Takes accountability for personal growth, development, and education.
? Willing to assume different tasks to deliver excellent quality and value-for-money services.
? In compliance with the facility's instructions, the individual provides assistance with wound closure or executes the procedure as required. They possess knowledge of the physical and biological properties of various suture materials and can differentiate between them. The suture and needle selection process is carried out based on the closure type, while the knot-tying technique is executed with precision, taking into consideration knot security and tissue characteristics.
? Acts as a focal point for staff, patients and families in providing support in patient care matters. Facilitates the provision of prompt, fitting and organized care to ensure successful patient outcomes.
? Handles unforeseen circumstances with competence and a calm demeanor. Keeps all involved parties informed and takes action accordingly to resolve the issue promptly.
? All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing

Certifications - Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Preferred:

Education - Bachelors degree in Nursing

Experience - 5+ years of Surgical Nursing Experience

Certifications - Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) Credential - Accredited University or accredited training professionals; CNOR Certification - Accredited University or accredited training professionals

Physical Requirements:

Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
