Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-02-22

About the position

The Time Together Student Worker position is part of the Penn Memory Center's Time Together Program, which focuses on providing companionship and engagement to older adults in their homes. This program aims to improve the mood and reduce feelings of isolation among older adults, while also offering respite to their family caregivers. The role is designed for college students who are interested in gaining experience in the aging sector, particularly in areas related to gerontology and memory loss. Students will engage with older adults who may be experiencing mild to moderate-stage dementia, participating in activities such as conversation, games, and walks to enhance the quality of life for these individuals. The position requires students to be located in the greater Philadelphia area, as in-person interaction is essential for the role. Students will be compensated at a rate of $10.00 per hour for their time spent providing companionship and support. In this role, students are expected to provide between 4 to 10 hours of companionship each week, developing or implementing activities that stimulate mental engagement and help reduce social isolation. Attendance at a mandatory virtual training session is required, and students must maintain timely attendance and communicate any schedule changes with caregivers or older adults. Accurate time logs must be kept, and students are responsible for communicating with caregivers and program staff to address any preferences or concerns regarding the care provided. This position not only offers a chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults but also provides valuable experience for students pursuing careers in health, social work, or related fields.
