Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Special Education Director, the Special Education Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality services to eligible students. This role involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at meeting individual student needs, managing caseloads, ensuring legal compliance, and fostering a collaborative educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide Special Education Services:
Develop tailored instruction aligned with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals to address students' unique needs.
Regularly assess student progress and maintain accurate data for progress reports and IEP reviews.
Create personalized lesson plans and curriculum materials, utilizing digital platforms such as Canvas.
Offer guidance and training to paraprofessionals to ensure effective instructional techniques.
Manage Special Education Caseload
Coordinate and lead IEP meetings, collaborating with stakeholders to develop comprehensive plans.
Maintain accurate records and manage paperwork related to IEPs and student progress.
Monitor student performance and provide ongoing support to facilitate goal achievement.
Ensure Service Delivery
Collaborate with related service providers to fulfill students' IEP requirements, including Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), Occupational Therapists (OTs), and Physical Therapists (PTs).
Organize student schedules to ensure timely access to necessary services.
Maintain regular communication with students and their families to provide updates and support.
Special Education Legal Compliance
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Colorado ECEA and IDEA standards, by maintaining accurate and up-to-date student files.
Manage deadlines for IEP meetings, evaluations, and eligibility reviews, maintaining thorough documentation.
Attend Special Ed L10 Meetings
Report on student attendance and performance metrics.
Set professional development goals and participate in ongoing training initiatives.
Maintain timely communication and task completion through email and project management tools.
Other Duties As Assigned
Attend and actively participate in all required meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Special Education.
Valid Colorado Special Education teaching license.
Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive).
Experience with online teaching tools such as Zoom and Canvas.
Ability to pass a background check.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Special Education, with online teaching experience preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
