Position Summary:

The intern will work closely with the Outreach and Digital Communications Specialist in the Youth and Young Adult Programs Division to develop a new strategic and creative vision for promoting youth and young adult programs across the National Park Service. This vision will help engage new and current audiences, including students, parents, educators, partners, friends groups, and the general public. It will create an exciting opportunity to expand youth and millennial generation interest in national park civic engagement by providing fresh, new ideas, as well as enthusiasm to energize National Park Service community efforts and inspire stakeholders. Involving young adults in the decision-making process can offer perspectives to improve marketing, advocacy, and outreach to advance National Park Service relevancy, diversity, and inclusion goals and more. The intern will work closely with the Outreach and Digital Communications Specialist on various projects.

They will gain experience:

Developing, writing, and curating content for social media (Facebook, X, and Instagram)

Learning the logistics for organizing a virtual event

Writing content for nps.gov, including youth and young adult program stories, interviews, and spotlights

Networking with other interns, volunteers, and staff at NPS

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: ? 60% - Develop, write, and curate content for social media platforms on a daily basis (Facebook, Instagram, and X). Create social media campaigns and report on social media statistics monthly. ? 20% - Interview youth, young adults, and employees about their connection to and/or experience with the National Park Service and write spotlight articles about them that will be published on nps.gov and featured on social media, and on other mediums where applicable. ? 15% - Edit and update webpages on nps.gov, write and post to InsideNPS (intranet), and internal SharePoint sites. ? 5% - Participate regularly in National Park Service digital communities, such as the service-wide digital calls and the digital recognition working group. Work on special projects as assigned.

Marginal Duties

Creating graphics and editing videos (level of detail depends on if the applicant has the experience)

Required Qualifications: ? Experience working with youth and diverse audiences ? Recent graduates are encouraged to apply ? Excellent customer service and communication skills ? Strong writing skills ? Experience with creating and posting content on social media platforms for an organization or school group, and tracking analytics ? Ability to work independently with some supervision ? Applications with resumes and cover letters will be prioritized

Additional Qualifications: ? Must be between the ages of 18 and 30 inclusive, or up to 35 years of age if a military veteran. ? Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or U.S. National ? Must be able to pass a federal background check

Preferred Qualifications: ? Experience in graphic design and video editing a plus, but not required ? Experience with interviewing ? Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, business, education, environmental science, or related fields.

Hours

30 per week

Living Accommodations

This position does not provide any housing. The applicant will need to be remote, or live in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia, and be able to come into the office on occasion.

Compensation

Weekly stipend of $525. Additional benefits include an AmeriCorps Education award upon successful completion, eligibility for the Public Lands Corps hiring authority, and reimbursement for approved travel and training.

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans aged 35 or younger, at the start of the position. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
